Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has confirmed he has undergone successful surgery on a fractured foot that has placed his involvement for the remainder of the in serious doubt.
Ake's campaign has been disrupted by a number of setbacks and the latest occurred at the weekend when he was substituted at half-time as Man City beat Plymouth in the FA Cup fifth round.
Without the centre-back, City came from behind against the Championship outfit thanks to second half goals from youngster Nico O'Reilly - who netted the equaliser on the stroke of half-time - and Kevin De Bruyne.
The Dutchman has since undergone an operation and will now begin his rehab as he targets a return to full fitness as soon as possible.
In a post on Instagram, Ake has revealed the extent of his fractured foot: “This has been such a frustrating season for me but I have now had a successful surgery on a fracture in my foot which has been bothering me for months and I am looking positively to the future!
“Rest and recover now, see you soon Cityzens and thank you for your support.”
Ake joins John Stones and Manuel Akanji on the sidelines, leaving Ruben Dias as well as January signings Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis as the only senior defenders available to Pep Guardiola as Man City chase success in the FA Cup and Champions League qualification.
